Location

Mauritius is located in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometers off the southeast coast of the Africa near the Tropic of Capricorn. The country includes the island of Mauritius of 1,865 km2, with a coastline of 330 km, Rodrigues of 108 km2 (560 km east), Agalega and St. Brandon.
Summer is from November to April with a temperature of about 29°C and winter from May to October of temperature of about 16°C. Mauritius is considered to be an all-year round destination.
Port Louis is the capital of the island where the harbor is also found. The central market is the heart of the local life of the islanders. The airport is at Plaisance
Mauritius got its independence on 12th March 1968, and was proclaimed a republic within the Commonwealth on 12th March 1992.
Mauritius has a population of more that 1.2 million and is a multi-religious and multicultural society. The inhabitants are multilingual drawn from Indian, African, European and Chinese.
